owned the original Roku/Netflix player, but it broke earlier this year during our move. I used this item primarily for Netflix, movie purchases from Amazon.com and my husband used it for UFC fights. When the player broke we decided to use our PS3. However, the PS3 is not so user friendly as the Roku player and doesn't seem to have the capability to access movies you have purchased from Amazon (perhaps I was unable to find this function). Furthermore, to the recent security issues the PS3 hasn't functioned well for weeks so I feel my Netflix subscription to be almost wasted. Another very annoying issue with the PS3 was that we were constantly signing into the Playstation Network in able to access our Netflix account. This often happened several times in a row, even though we selected to be automatically signed in.

I have no complaints about Roku. I purchased my original Roku in 2008 shortly after the partnership with Netflix began. I enjoy the player because it is simple to use/navigate, several channels (most popular Netflix, Amazon.com, UFC, Crackle,Hulu Plus) have been added which makes cable even more pointless. Due to the cost of shipping the Roku player tends to be cheaper on Amazon.com if you have prime membership. I have only used PS3 and Roku to stream video to my television so I cannot compare Roku to other devices. However, I did look at a variety of options before buying Roku again. From what I learned, Roku is by far the least expensive and I found the player easy to use. I also noticed that the easy of set-up for this unit has become very streamlined.

*On a side note when purchasing movies from Amazon.com through its instant video, Amazon can withdraw the movie from your library due to licensing issues. Although you have purchased the movie, you may or may not have access to it the same way you would with an actual DVD. We found this out the hard way, when movies started disappearing from our library on the Amazon.com on Roku. I think the only way to solve this problem is to download and save the movie using a DVD, but we have not tried this yet.

**Another side note/benefit, Amazon.com offers a large variety of free movies to its prime members that are accessible through Roku. Roku-XD-Streaming-Player-1080p
